Orthodontics for Straighter Teeth

_

Adults tend to be quite resistant to having orthodontics. This is partly because of the appearance and also the fact that most orthodontic offices are geared toward children. Nowadays, we offer a gentle straightening system that is kind to your mouth and doesn’t stand out like the more traditional, metal braces, and our orthodontics patients are treated from the age of 8 onwards.

There are a few options when it comes to straighter teeth to correct your smile. You can choose between fixed or removable devices. Both help move the teeth by placing gentle pressure on your teeth causing them to slowly move in your jaw. Adult braces are different from children’s braces in that they often don’t need to be on for so long with some cases being as short as 6 months.

Your orthodontic treatment options consist of:

Clear Aligners

Clear Aligners are a set of custom-made plastic removable aligners which are designed to shift your teeth into the ideal position. About every 1 to 2 weeks you are required to switch to a new set of aligner trays, moving your teeth into a straighter position step by step, until you have a more beautiful smile. Since clear aligners are practically invisible, there’s no unwarranted attention to your mouth. In fact, very few people will notice at all. They’re comfortable to wear and remove easily when you eat, brush, and floss.

Invisible Braces

Invisible Braces are smaller, lighter, and show no metal like old traditional braces. They come tooth colored and are almost clear which is usually preferred by adults. Fixed to your teeth with brackets, elastic bands, and an archwire. Your Dentist will adjust your Invisible Braces every 4-8 weeks depending on the treatment you require.

Traditional Metal Braces

Fixed to your teeth with metal brackets, elastic bands, and an archwire. Metal brackets are glued to the front of your tooth and used to anchor the archwire and elastic bands. The archwire is tightened to put tension on your teeth so they gradually move in the ideal position.
